FOR ALL IN AUTHORITY

This is a crucial week to pray for the President of The United States and for both houses of congress. Scripture commands us to pray for all those in authority. (1Tim. 2:1-4) The particular issue of the American response to Syria’s use of chemical weapons on their own people is being debated this week. And the lives of millions of people may well be affected by the outcome of these discussions.

It is important to remember that the Holy Spirit gave this command in the days of the ungodly Roman Empire. They were not to pray for the government because they wanted it to succeed in its horrific goals. They were to pray for government in spite of the threat it was to their lives.

If you allow your support or your bitter disagreement with the President or either party in congress to keep you from praying for them, you have put your faith in the idol of your political opinion rather than the God who commands you to trust him.
